Improved assessment of aortic hemodynamics by k-t accelerated dual-venc 4D flow MRI in pediatric patients

چکیده
Background Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is often associated with aortic stenosis, resulting in high velocity blood flow in the ascending aorta, with slow flow areas in the dilated aorta or adjacent vessels. Similarly, Marfan syndrome patients develop aortic root dilatation and regurgitation with both high and low velocity blood flow. 4D flow MRI is typically acquired with a velocity encoding (venc) gradient adjusted to the estimated peak velocity. As the velocity noise is directly related to the velocity sensitivity (sv~venc), a high venc can substantially limit the assessment of low flow velocities (v < < venc). We therefore developed a fully integrated lowand high-venc PC-MRI in a single measurement (dual-venc) to avoid aliasing and improve velocity-to-noise ratio (VNR).

The use of k-t PCA accelerated dual-venc 3D flow MRI to assess hemodynamics before and after flow diverting stent implantation in cerebral aneurysm models
Background Hemodynamic parameters are known to play a crucial role in the growth and rupture of intracranial aneurysms [Appanaboyina IntJNumerMethodsFluids2008]. Flow diverting stents have emerged as an alternative to coiling by using fine meshes to divert flow away from the aneurysm sac to promote thrombus formation and remodeling of the aneurysm while keeping side branches and perforating art...
متن کاملImproved assessment of aortic 3D blood flow with combined k-t accelerated 3D CINE bSSFP & 4D flow MRI
Background To determine hemodynamic parameters from 4D flow MRI, vessel boundaries are typically depicted by calculating a 3D phase contrast MR angiogram (PC-MRA) from 4D flow magnitude and flow images. However, this approach is limited by 1) low blood-tissue contrast of the magnitude images and 2) velocity weighting of PC-MRA may not fully depict areas of slow or swirling (vortex) flow. As a r...
متن کاملVisualization of Soft Tissue Venous Malformations of Head and Neck with 4D Flow Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Evaluation of hemodynamics in venous malformation (VM) in the head and neck area is done by direct puncture venography before alcohol sclerotherapy, but it is difficult due to a variable degree of filling in from the artery and filling out into the draining vein. We present our preliminary experience of 4D MRI to evaluate VM hemodynamics. Four patients with venous malformation in the maxillofac...
متن کاملAcclerated Dual Venc Phase Contrast VIPR in Healthy Volunteers
Introduction: Rapid imaging techniques now allow for the acquisition of volumetric, time-resolved, phase contrast (PC) images with three directional velocity encoding. Covering large vascular territories with a single 4D PC MRI makes choosing the proper velocity encoding (Venc) challenging. If the Venc is too low for a vessel of interest, velocity aliasing occurs. If chosen too high, the veloci...
متن کاملIntraindividual validation of 4D flow measurement against 2D flow measurements in aortas with bicuspid or tricuspid valves by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR)
Background Theoretically, blood flow in the ascending aorta of patients with helical flow patterns, as in patients with bicuspid aortic valves (BAV), are underestimated by routine two dimensional (2D) phase contrast velocity encoding (PC-VENC). Four dimensional (4D) PC-VENC is theoretically not influenced by flow patterns. Hence, both, 2D PC-VENC and 4D PC VENC should result in similar blood fl...
